Museum Day in Rio
Well @ least that is what we first intended. We did "do" one museum the Museu de Arte Moderna, MAM. We had asked the cab driver to take us to the Museum of Contemporary Art. We had wanted to go there only to see the structure... see the photo above (borrowed from the internet)... but because of our inability to speak Portuguese we were taken to the Museum of Modern Art.
But, I get ahead of my self.... we had spent the morning in a bohemian part of town called Santa Teresa.

It housed a permanent collection of of Da art,
we were as bewildered by the work there, as were usually are by
this type of artwork... you know those
collections of broken glass, or eviscerate objects with
that represent something that we have no clue about.
A bit like Dia Beacon.
However, the exhibitions were another story... one by a man from Ohio, Jay Milder, an Impressionist. We liked several of his paintings. They were a combination of religion (Noah's Arc) politics, "hippies", and symbols (numbers, shapes, and letters)... he was "rebelling against a world codified by man."
The best part of the museum was the World Press Photo exhibit, an annual competition by an international organization. Go to the link and check out the pictures taken during 2005 by various members of the press from around the globe. Topics dealt with news, nature, and sports. Some sad, some disturbing, few were "happy", but all were moving.
But, I get ahead of my self.... we had spent the morning in a bohemian part of town called Santa Teresa..
