Machu Picchu: Day One Wayna Picchu

Wayna Picchu is the mountain you see in te background of all the pictures of Machu Picchu. It is also called Young Peak. It is a peak 8922 feet above sea level, or about 1182 feet above Machu Picchu. It is a steep 1.5 hour hike up (thats 3 hours total) Inca stone steeps that are very irregular. Some are 12 or more inches in height, other 4 or 5 inches high and very narrow, many are on the edge of a cliff, all are unprotected. Yup thats right it was the first thing we did ! Got up at 5AM ran to be one of the first 100 into the site because only 400 people are allowed each day, and only 100 at a time. So if you are not in the first humdred.... you wait abut 3 hours for the entrance. In the picture I am across from the peak, Jeff has indicted the hikers on Wayna with little yellow arrows. But what a view!
